Green Campus Project – Grace Orchard School
By Dow Chemical Pacific (Singapore) Pte Ltd & B.T. Sports Pte Ltd​

Dow has invented a novel water-based adhesive technology for safer use by end users. Rubberized sports surfaces where children play and use every day typically consist of rubber granules bounded together by adhesives. Conventional solvent based adhesive systems discharge large amounts of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and other harmful substances during the application and in use of the rubberized surfaces.

To address this issue, Dow and BT Sports agreed to collaborate and jointly implement this new binder technology in Singapore to promote sustainable and safe rubberized sports surfaces. The joint demonstration was successfully done in Grace Orchard School in Jurong early 2018, first of its kind in Asia Pacific (outside Greater China). The collaboration led to developing formulation and application techniques that are key to ensuring successful adoption of this new adhesive technology in South East Asia weather conditions.

 

Singapore’s First Bovine Tissue Processing Facility

Since 2005, Edwards Lifesciences Singapore has been a key manufacturing site for Edwards’ heart valves globally.

This collaboration with Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (“AVA”), on getting AVA acceptance of inbound bovine pericardial tissue, is crucial to the success of Edwards’ new tissue processing facility in Singapore.

Source-to-tissue-processing time, inclusive of customs clearance, must be within Edwards’ validated timing to preserve tissue quality.

To overcome this time-critical challenge, a pro-enterprise measure by AVA is to permit Edwards an advance application for a future consignment import of Australia sourced tissue, subject to T&Cs. AVA advance consignment import permit greatly facilitates Customs clearance, and helps keep source-to-tissue processing time within Edwards’ validated timing. Usually, import permits are granted upon prior submission of a valid health certificate.

This advance consignment import permit provides clarity and predictability for import timeline, reduces 66.7% air miles over previous arrangement, while avoiding tissue discard if import clearance is delayed.

 

Singapore Goes Green: Asia Pacific’s First Carbon Neutral Car Dealership

Using a structured audit approach, Castrol and BP Target Neutral worked with Inchcape Singapore to calculate their carbon footprint for the year 2018. The foot print covers all of the dealership emissions and was calculated as 4,042 metric ton (MT). BP also presented an energy audit report to Inchcape group. The report made several recommendations for continuous reduction of the carbon foot print in Inchcape workshops and offices.

Inchcape accepted the BP recommendations and is working on a long-term carbon reduction plan with residual emissions neutralised through the purchase of carbon credits. This has entitled Inchcape Singapore to become Asia Pacific’s first Carbon Neutral dealership.

Automated Guided Vehicle Car Parking System at 18 Robinson, Singapore

In the 1990s, automated car parking was largely just a discussion about possibilities. Having your car parked by a robot was something that we thought would happen only ‘in the future’. Collaborating with Yeefung, MHE-Demag has brought the ‘future’ to this region by launching the first-of-its-kind Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) parking solution. In simple terms, it is like having a robot as your valet.

Singapore is the first country to have adopted it with the AGV parking system installed in the Robinson Tower, which will provide 90 parking lots. The entire system is managed by a computer network, which allows a high degree of flexibility. It is capable of switching operation modes to adapt to different requirements in the day. Besides the hassle-free parking, the average retrieval time for a car parked with the AGV parking solution is 2 minutes.

 

Global Production Network

Our supply Chain complexity has increased exponentially in the last decades with an increasing share of outsourcing manufacturing partners. This development called for a disruptive approach to manage our future supply chain. The project team took a holistic approach by looking at current and future challenges and understanding industry trends. We selected the best approach and partner to increase our competitive advantage through this collaboration.

This collaboration introduces Global production network (GPN) which, according to Industry 4.0 framework, handles the horizontal integration of our Supply Chain and manufacturing network. One of the GPN goals is to provide real-time visibility of our Supply Chain from wafer start until delivery of our finished products to the customer.Another goal is to be able to control in real-time what is happening and trigger actions when blocking of material is needed.

Through this collaboration, we largely enhanced an existing platform and developed a joint roadmap which will benefit other industry players.

 

Next Generation, Ultrafast, Resilient, Low Latency and Efficient Trading Platform

In 2013, Singapore became the world’s 3rd largest foreign exchange (FX) trading hub (after London and New York), overtaking Tokyo. Despite that, many banks and proprietary FX platforms remain in Tokyo.

To develop the FX ecosystem in Singapore and trigger a move from Tokyo, Spark Systems and Dymon Asia has come together to collaborate and build a homegrown FX Platform using its engineering and FX trading insights respectively.

The collaboration insights have resulted in a homegrown, ultrafast, bespoked algorithmic FX Platform and has also triggered new liquidity in Singapore.

 

Safety VR Programme
By Schneider Electric Asia Pte Ltd & AAT Training Hub Pte Ltd​

Schneider Electric has a team of 1,800 field engineers in East Asia and Japan Pacific (EAJP) who navigate unfamiliar and hazardous electrical switch rooms at facilities such as oil rigs, hotels, factories and plants to repair and maintain energy management systems that Schneider Electric’s customers have deployed.

Schneider Electric engaged AAT Training Hub to create a custom Virtual Reality (VR) simulation to offer hands-on training for these field engineers around on-site safety procedures. The VR simulation will be incorporated into the pre-requisite training program of new engineers in Singapore next year with plans to scale the collaboration across the EAJP region.

 

SK-II Shanghai Pop-up Smart Store

Together with SK-II, Huge set to disrupt the conventions of the beauty industry by creating a pop-up smart store in Shanghai. Huge was on a mission to elevate the skin-care experience and deliver a curated journey using the powers of emerging technology.

Skin is unique, but skincare retail is one size fits all, so we started with one question: How can we use emerging technologies to create a store that truly adjusts to individuals? Using facial recognition, computer vision, machine learning and sensor technology, we created a revolutionary and highly personalized destination for a new and tech-savvy generation of shoppers allowing them a new ways to experience, share and purchase the brand.

Digitalisation of Warehouse Material Issuing Process
By Mitsuboshi Overseas Headquarters Private Limited & Temasek Polytechnic

Mitsuboshi Overseas Headquarters Pte Ltd (MOH) collaborated with Temasek Polytechnic to digitalise the warehouse material issuing system so as to ensure the correct materials are issued based on quality and lot number requested. MOH staff and TP students brainstormed ideas on how to automate the process. TP students then leveraged their knowledge on computer engineering to develop a simple and low-cost system.

The innovation involved digitalising the process of identifying and verifying the materials before issuing to the requester. This collaboration helped MOH improve productivity of 20%, which translated to a saving of 41.5 man-days per year. The problem of wrong materials issued was 100% eliminated after the new system was implemented. The system is scalable and can be implemented in other Mitsuboshi branches that are performing the same material issuing process.

The collaboration had also provided TP students with a valuable experience to apply their skills learnt in school.

 

ICAEW-ISCA FinTech Innovation

ICAEW and ISCA held a roundtable Fintech discussion in April. The discussion was led by Kirstin Gillon, ICAEWIT Faculty Lead and joined by 10 other experts from start-up companies, multinational corporations and financial services to their views on the impact and challenges faced by businesses in Singapore. This event is the prelude to the official launch the joint publication between ICAEW and ISCA – ‘Fintech innovation:perspectives from Singapore and London’ on 29 October 2018.

The ‘Fintech innovation:perspectives from Singapore and London’ joint report launch was attended by close to 80 members from both institutes presented by Kirstin. A panel discussion moderated by Kirstin discussed further on how technology impacts businesses, blockchain and adoption of fintech.

Establishing a deeply embedded content production unit with cross-media capabilities within P&G Singapore’s Metropolis office that will facilitate brand marketing requirements to P&G’s diverse portfolio of brands.

Adopting a “people first” approach, the collaborative model between agency and client is aimed at enabling content creation with speed and agility to market whilst ensuring high creative quality standards and optimum delivery through a collaborative and unified partnership.

 

International Payments Solved
By Flywire & Bryden Pte. Ltd.​

Flywire and Bryden collaborated to implement Flywire’s payment capabilities into Bryden’s processes in order to facilitate efficiency for both Bryden’s internal processes & Bryden’s payers.

Many of Bryden’s payers were using Telegraphic Transfers (T/T) to pay for their manufactured clothing lines and incurred high FX fees & bank charges. On Bryden’s end, payments were often short, either due to difficulties surrounding foreign exchange differences or due to unexpected bank charges.

These challenges were the foundation of this collaboration which Flywire & Bryden worked together to solve.

 

Singapore’s First Large-scale Modular MEP Project

The Global Switch Woodlands Data Centre project is the first project in Singapore to adopt prefabricated mechanical and electrical and plumbing (MEP) modular construction on a large scale (where over 60% of the MEP works were done off-site). This modularisation and offsite fabrication method aligns with the Singapore government’s objective to transform the built environment sector through significant increase in off-site design for manufacture and assembly supply capabilities. As a part of this collaboration/project, Gammon carried out the offsite modular works by setting by Singapore’s first MEP modular factory in Tuas.

Digital Solution to Improve Driving Behaviours

Philip Morris Singapore (PMS) has one of the city’s largest commercial fleets directly distributing goods to retail customers. Partnering with GreenRoad, an innovative fleet optimisation company, the collaboration has revolutionised the way the fleet is managed, leveraging technology to improve human driving behaviours.

Combining real-time, in-vehicle coaching with cloud-based contextual intelligence, the partnership between PMS and GreenRoad proves that a fully systemised, data-oriented, user-friendly technology can be a “24/7 personalised driving coach”. To further sustain good driving habits, PMS integrates GreenRoad’s interactive dashboards with a gamified rewards program for their drivers.

Since its implementation in May 2018, PMS has already seen a reduction in road incidences and traffic offences by more than 50%. While continuous improvement in driving behaviours contributes to better business efficiency, it is also a steer towards having safer roads in Singapore.

 

Duty of Care to the Mobile Workforce: The Singapore Declaration

The International SOS Foundation, supported by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC), launched a pioneering and instrumental ‘Singapore Declaration’ on 3 September 2017 during the opening of the XXI World Congress on Safety and Health at Work.

It was the first global declaration committed to the well-being, security and safety i.e. Duty of Care towards the mobile workforce. It aimed to galvanise leaders and professionals across all industry sectors, public sector, educational institutions, IGOs and NGOs to demonstrate their commitment to Duty of Care towards their mobile workforce.

 

GESS Cloud-based Solution

German European School Singapore (GESS) is an international school, self-funded and seeking for an online platform that could manage production of campus-related items. p;log Pte Ltd collaborated with GESS to set up a cloud-based solution that includes a branded storefront with built-in approval process and printshop feature.

With nil capital investment, they enjoyed a higher return of investments by automating a system to handle external and internal print management solution which includes essential small orders that is time-consuming and cost staff of efficiency and productivity. On one integrated platform, unlimited users from various departments could self-signed up and order marketing collaterals, apparels, stationeries and even teaching materials within minutes. This fully end-to-end automated solution has benefited the school and has potential to be replicated, customized and scaled up within the same educational institutions and/or across industries.

 

Infineon Co-Innovation Space

Co-innovation with start-ups helps Infineon Technologies to gain early exposure to new and potentially disruptive trends. These may not be tackled by existing larger customers. A secondary impact of co-innovation is that working together with start-ups will help imbibe the “fail fast” culture of start-ups within Infineon. To set-up a structured platform for co-innovation or jointly working on nascent applications together with start-ups, Infineon Technologies has established a 250 square meter Co-innovation Space in Singapore. This space – the first of its kind globally will host four start-ups for a period of a year all of which will work with Infineon’s technologists to jointly develop solutions. This unique marriage of a large corporate’s scale, deep outreach into markets and access to customers when coupled with the speed and agility of a start-up is expected to reap game changing results.
